N Things
Instructions
The group forms a circle. One person goes into the middle of the circle and says "Hi, my name's ...". The whole group then says "Hi, Josh" (or whatever their name is).
A category is then picked - it can be broad (like "Colours"), or very specific (like "Types of Bread"). The player must then name N things that fall into that category. N should be picked appropriately so that it doesn't take too long, if the group is large then N should be smaller. 5 or 8 are probably good starting points.
The group supports the speaker by shouting "ONE THING", "TWO THINGS", "THREE THINGS", etc. after each item.
When the speaker has named N things, everyone shouts together "THAT WAS N THINGS". Everyone applauds until another player steps forward. Rinse and repeat.
The idea here is not to worry about specifics, if your brain supplies something that is within the category then GREAT, but if it doesn't - make something up.
Encourage the group to celebrate whatever is said. This exercise is about being willing to fail. To relish support and to make things up on the spot.
Note that some of the funniest things are not the strictly correct items. Mistakes are opportunities and therefore we need to run towards failure with open arms.
It's quite interesting to interrogate within yourself how okay you are with saying things that aren't true. We are educated to avoid mistakes and appear clever above all else.
